Green Ridge Residences
Scranton’s Green Ridge neighborhood is characterized by tree-lined streets and stately homes and mansions. Many were originally built in the late 19th and early 20th centuries by urban capitalists who made fortunes in coal, railroads, manufacturing and related businesses. American architecture was coming into its own and these dynamic, newly-American entrepreneurs celebrated their success and good fortune. They sought out the best of designers and craftsmen from America and Europe.
While time took its toll on some buildings, today’s Green Ridge residents have saved many landmark structures, restoring them to their past glory. Scranton’s Architectural Heritage Association pays homage to our remarkable collection of well-preserved homes and institutional buildings by conducting periodic tours.
